Roomba battery and charging overview
Before using Roomba for the first time, you must remove the Battery Pull Tab and charge Roomba overnight or until the CLEAN light turns green.
Under normal conditions, Roomba should charge in this manner:
- Your Power Supply should have a solid green light on when it is plugged into a wall outlet charging Roomba.
- Your Home Base, if you have one, should have a solid green power light when it is plugged into the Power Supply and Roomba is charging.
- Your Roomba's CLEAN light should pulse red/amber while charging. Charging time under normal conditions is three hours.
- If Roomba senses that its battery has been significantly discharged, Roomba will enter a special 16-hour refresh charge cycle. When the 16-hour refresh charge is initiated, the CLEAN light will quickly pulse red/amber. Do not interrupt the cycle once it has begun. The 16-hour refresh charge cycle is initiated by the robot and cannot be started manually.
- When the charging cycle is complete, the CLEAN light on Roomba should turn solid green.
When Roomba is running on a CLEAN cycle, Roomba's runtime is based on several factors:
- Floor type (more resistance = less runtime)
- Room configuration (more obstacles = less runtime)
- When using Roomba in conjunction with a Lighthouse, Roomba will run for up to a maximum of 25 minutes per room, regardless of the floor surface and room size. This enables Roomba to clean as many rooms as possible.
Age of the battery, room temperature, frequency of use. Battery capacity reduces overtime and will need to be replaced each year.
While Roomba is running, the CLEAN light will display the state of the battery as follows:
- Green - fully charged
- Amber - partially discharged
- Red - nearly discharged
- Flashing Red - discharged
Always store Roomba charging on the Home Base or with the Power Supply plugged into the Robot. For long-term storage, remove the battery from Roomba and store in a cool, dry place. Blue or black batteries should be stored after Roomba has been used. Yellow batteries should be stored after being fully charged.
